Being Green

Here at Street End Farm we recognise how important the way we run our business is to the environment and the impact it has on this beautiful planet we inhabit. Below are a number of things that we do to reduce our carbon footprint and run our business in a way that helps to create a sustainable future.

Growing Our Own Products

We grow as many of our bird seed ingredients that we physically can on our farm. If we can’t grow them – we source them from local farming neighbours wherever possible. This means transport mileage is dramatically less than most of the major bird seed suppliers who import the majority of their seed from all over the world. By buying produce which has been grown and produced by us, here in Hampshire UK, our customers can be sure that their products have travelled a few tractor miles – not a few thousand miles from China.

Home grown –the green option

Farming for the Future

The nature of our farm, the crops we grow and the environmentally sensitive way we farm, all contribute to supporting British Native birds and our migratory visitors and also all the other beautiful wildlife we are so lucky to share our planet with. E.g. we have a large,( and increasing) number of brown hares on the farm, which are specific conservation markers.

Recycling and Minimising Waste

We are certified members of the Webbpaton XS farm Cardboard and Waste Plastic Recycling Scheme.

All our farm waste cardboard and plastic is sorted, packed up and delivered to the local site for baling and recycling. Our target is to prevent 100% of our farm plastic entering landfill sites.

To date this ambitious target has been met- which is fantastic for our environment.

Our Packaging

Our 20kg, 13kg and 8kg bags are recyclable and waterproof. If your local authority takes margarine tubs in your green bins – you will be able to recycle our bags with them.

If you experience difficulties recycling these we will be very happy to have them back and recycle them within our recycling scheme. Just fold them small and post them back to us here at the farm. We will refund you the cost of posting these back to us, by holding a credit against your next purchase – so you won’t be out of pocket!

And of course – these incredibly durable bags are great to use for a whole host of other things like wood for the fire!

And at the end of the day – this is what it is all about . As an example - giving this young lapwing chick an opportunity to survive and grow into an adult- and to preserve the species for our world.
