We grow our own sunflowers at Street End Farm which means that we can offer you home grown, fully traceable black sunflower seeds of the highest quality and cleanliness. This year we have grown a variety called 'Blizar' and they make a really spectacular sight sitting on top of the Downs. We sow them in May and harvest the heads in October. Once harvested, they are triple cleaned on the farm. Black sunflower seeds are still a firm favourite for garden birds,who crack open the relatively thin seed coat, allowing them access to the oil-rich kernel.

Sunflower hearts ( which are the sunflower seeds minus the black outer husks ) offer a more easily available source of energy and are particularly recommended for small birds in the winter months - where time spent cracking open husks is eliminated, and this allows them to feed more efficiently. One other great reason to buy sunflower hearts - there are no messy husks left under your feeding stations!
